Come and visit Gerulata, the first castellum in the line Carnuntum–Ad Flexum
The grounds of the Museum comprise foundations of buildings from the 1st up to the 4th century. Late Ancient fortress from the 4th century built into the northern corner of the original castellum can be seen in the open air part of the Museum.
The grounds of the Ancient Gerulata Museum in Rusovce are located on the site of the former Roman military castellum on the border of the fortification system, the so-called Limes Romanus dated to the period of the 2nd to 4th centuries. Complex conservation and restoration works of the site started in 1975. In order to present the archaeological finds excavated on this site, a modern exhibition hall was built that has been housing an exhibition of Roman era artefacts from 1985. Restored remains of the original structure of the castellum in the Museum’s grounds were open for public in 1988 and became a part of the exhibition.
