Bratislava City Museum

Your guide through the time

With a tradition of more than 150 years (founded in 1868), the Bratislava City Museum is the oldest continuously operating museum in Slovakia. In line with its focus, it manages an exceptionally diverse and richly structured collection. This collection comprises historical, archaeological, art-historical, and ethnographic artifacts that document the history of Bratislava, the functioning and development of crafts, industry, and viticulture, as well as the city’s administration and its cultural and social life.

The Bratislava City Museum continues to develop as a modern cultural and memory institution—a source of knowledge about the city’s history and a space for dialogue between the past and the present, as well as among the city’s inhabitants. It approaches its role with sensitivity, contributing to the definition and reflection of Bratislava’s identity and to the creation of spaces for social inclusion and meaningful leisure that remain engaging for local audiences. The Museum aims to be an active part of city life, conveying its themes and content through contemporary forms of communication and programming.
